Since the Christian Prison Ministry sent team to train and develop the lives of the prisoners in correctional prisons to restore their lives in Pathumtani Women and Men’s Correctional. In 2001, Mr. Sorasit Jongcharoen, the Prison Director of Pathumtani Men’s Correctional during that time had asked Mr. Soonthorn Soonthorntarawong, the Director of Christian Prison Ministry for advise regarding the restoration of the lives of the prisoners under his care. Most of the prisoners were drug addicts and pushers. After they discussed, Mr. Soonthorn suggested to have a prison choir as a way of restorative method for prisoners. In August 2001, the Pathumtani Men’s Correctional Institution had started the program of the prison choir through Mr. Soonthorn set up the training and practice the songs with music instructors Mr. Sathit Sukchongchaipruk and Mr. Siri Chang to train this prison choir to helped rehabilitate the group of prisoners and to expressed themselves through their voices in singing. Through singing had helped the prisoners changed their attitudes, their emotions and their perspective in life. Together with their feelings and attitude, they were transformed and got better. As they practice for 6 months until one day, the Director General of the Correction Department Mr. Siwa Saengmanee visited the Pathumtani Men’s Correctional and saw the presentation of this prison choir. He was so impressed and suggested that this group of prisoners to go out and performed that many people from the government officials and people will see. The Director General had met the Christian Prison Ministry staff and agreed together to have a concert and this was the first prison choir in Thailand. The title of the concert was ” Voices to Build Lives, Victory over Drug Addiction” and it was held on March 2002 at the Department of Correction Conference Hall. It was filled of people and many of them were interested to see. The audience suggested that this group pf prisoners can go out to show because it was the first time that people will see that prisoners to express themselves through songs. This program of restoration was extended to Pathumtani Women Correctional and other prisons joined this program. It was a big success. The prisoners who joined the Prison Choir were able to release and everyone got a good job. They became good people in the society. Avery impressive program and they received a very impressive audience in life because Princess Sirindhorn came to watch their concert in April 2004. Princess Galyani (Sister of King Rama 9) had watched the concert of Prison Choirs in December 2004 and in November 2005.
